Taste of Korea to raise funds for Hawaii Korean Cultural Center

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – If you love Korean food and culture, the 8th Taste of Korea event will satisfy your cravings while supporting the local Korean community.
Amanda Chang, President of the nonprofit Hawaii Korean Cultural Center, and Chef Pia Lim of Chogajip Korean Restaurant joined HNN’s Sunrise to talk about the fundraiser, which will feature entertainment and more than 20 different dishes to taste and imported liquor from Korea.
Chogajip is one of the featured restaurants and will serve traditional Korean dishes like oyster jun and bossam, pork belly boiled in a seasoned broth served with fresh kimchi, seasonal vegetable stuffing and special sauce.
Taste of Korea began in 2014 to share Korean culture with Hawaii residents and raise funds to build the Hawaii Korean Cultural Center (HKCC) in Kalihi Valley. HKCC will have a museum for Korean immigration to Hawaii and the independence movement in Hawaii, and a school to teach Korean culture, language and history to the public, K-12 students and kupuna.
The event takes place on Nov. 14 from 6-9 p.m. at the Japanese Cultural Center. Tickets are available for $100 at HawaiiKCC.org.
Visit Chogajip at 1718 Kapiolani Blvd. across from the Hawaii Convention Center or their website chogajip.com. Hours are 8 a.m. to 4 a.m. daily.
